In my Equestria dreamscape pegasus ponies have over the centuries created a plethora of terms, descriptions, and phrases to describe various meteorological conditions. Some are very technical and exact in nature and refer to very specific situations, others are much more casual in nature.
Happy Skies, also sometimes called Playful Air, is one of those loose general terms. As a pegasus pony I now have a much more intimate connection with the atmosphere and even when indoors I often can sense subtle ebbs and flows of conditions that created different weather conditions.
When the temperatures are right, the winds are blowing a certain way, the humidity is just right, one gets a condition where flying is just exquisite. The sun feel glorious on your hide, there are plenty of clouds just big enough to rest or play on, the winds don't buffet you around but instead give you extra speed or provide that little bit of extra lift one needs when landing and taking off. Even the updrafts and thermals seem like gentle hands/ hoofs that wanted to lift pegasus ponies up into the sky and carry them away for a day of play and adventure in the heavens.
In fact Happy Skies result in a measurable increase of truancy, tardiness, not showing up for work, and elevated levels of overall goofing off by pegasus ponies. If you're a pegasus foal stuck in classroom looking out the window or pegasus stallion or mare stuck in an office or factory punching the clock Happy Skies days can be agonizing.
We recently had our first Happy Skies day of the year in Ponyville. It's sirens call was irresistible, and after performing my most basic chores around the cottage early in the morning I was off into the wild blue yonder. Besides I had a couple hours of Weather Work scheduled this morning, so I had better take care of it right away! Those clouds weren't going to move themselves where we needed them all by themselves! Yep, there was a job up there in the bright blue sky and this bright blue pony was not going avoid his duties. The fact that neither Petina or Carousel saw me for the rest of the day is purely coincidence. Really!
To be continued.

Well of course I met RD, she'll use any excuse to get out and play amongst the clouds. She was the one who taught me cloud sliding. I also met Cloudchaser, Blossomforth, Thunderlane and host of other pegasus who are either full time or part-time weather ponies. Even Fluttershy was sitting on cloud with songbirds resting on her wings singing merrily away.
Along with cloud sliding, RD also started teaching me some of fundamentals of acrobatics and by the end of the day I had mastered the basic loop. We also played a game called Cloud Hunt which is combination of hide n' seek and tag.
