Not a story, but an idea for a race in the stories.
Of the race I am using,of course I have humans, dwarves and trolls, and I have the Rakash (the tiger race that Mouse is part of), but I thought of one more "major" race, the Dravi.
I envision them as another "furry" race, like the Rakash, but like them they tend more towards a more fantasy style race then a typical furry one. I haven't decided on a animal to base them on, though, so any suggestions would be welcome.
I'm rather proud of these guys, though. Maybe I should do something like this for the Rakash.
If you have any ideas or critiques on them, feel free to note me.

I like them. Not sure about the name Dravi, though. I'd have probably tried to relate their name Chiroptera (bats) somehow.
Somewhere in it, you say they've developed their sixth sense to an almost psychic level. Sixth sense is psychic in nature. Maybe you want to describe it as a gut level instinct that can be honed to near psychic levels. Just my two cents. Pretty well developed race.
I'd like to see some cultural footnotes as well. What type of art do they create? What type of music could a blind race of echolocators create? They seem ripe for artistic sensibilities.
Nicely done. You created them well enough for me to have these questions.

Thats for the tips. I may have to reupload this, but the real point was to put forth ideas and get feed back. I though up Dravi pretty quick, so its not really permanent, but I like your suggestion of using some based on Chiroptera.
I'll also work on changing the some details and adding them. You're probably right about the Sitxh Sense thing. I do think I need to elaborate on the cultural aspects, but I think I alraedy have an idea for the music (they have some very high pitches).
Any ideas on what animal to base the on though. Other than bats, I don't want to deal with the wings. Maybe something like the Rakash, like you wouldn't be surprised to see in Dungeons and Dragons or The Elder Scrolls.

Naked mole rats are similar, as are moles, most shrews and voles (a species related to badgers and ferrets), in that they all are underground dwellers with different means of dealing with their inability to see. Naked molerats are probably not a good idea, though. They are deaf as well as blind and have an unremarkable sense of smell. They "see" by dragginf their jawbones along the floor of their tunnels. Their entire wordly input is from a weak sense of smell and this weird contact vibration thing. The others sound quite similar to what you're discussing though.
Meh, I'm looking for something attractive. I'll reserve the other ideas for lesser races, but I want the Dravi (or whatever I'll end up calling them) to be something you wouldn't mind see in a two piece...
You know, maybe wingless bats would be good. I think that'd fit well.

It fits too, because bats are actually an early offshoot of the primate evolutionary branch. There's this bizarre critter called the Aye-Aye, that is the link between those two lines. It looks bizarre and has certain unmistakable bat-like features. They could be a sort of, "What if other proto-bats had evolved into hominids?"
That's interesting, really original stuff. I'm a conworlder (I think that's the right term these days) so I love all kinds of ideas conserning new races and cultures.
This is a *really* minor detail, but it got me thinking ('cause I always get stuck in little details)... If one calls dwarves Dwarves with a capital D, shouldn't one refer to - for example - humans as "Humans" with a capital H? I always thought that races are simply races but if some guy is from a place called Darvinia he could be called Darvinian with a capital letter etc.
Erh, isn't it frustrating when the people who are supposed to give you helpful feedback just babble on like this? -_.

I'm a little confused as to whether I should capitalize races, so chalk it up to grammer errors (one of them is, at least).
Anyways, any other though? I plan to work on it some more and upload a new one, but I'd love to hear form you before I do. You might want to check out the conversation I had with Pyromancy, too.

The word Dravi reminded me of the Dravidian languages - as in the languages spoken in India. I think people who speak Sanskrit and the like might also be called "the Dravi", but I'm not 100% sure. Then again, it doesn't really matter much... And well, I agree with you guys. Anything batlike is cool. =)
Also, you can't create a race without creating a culture and a history to go with it. Mind mapping is a great way to work with various ideas of different scales!

I've got good ideas for the culture. As for the history, well, I'm planning something that will explain a common part of history for the Dravi (or whatever I'll call them), the Rakash, the Dwarves, the Trolls, and Mankind.
Lets just say it invovles nasty elves, immortal fey races, and a war between the Gods.

I love nasty elves. Not necessarily the drow kind (I think their culture is a bit one-sided to say the least), but I like the snooty kind who live in big cities and think they're too posh to socialize with filthy humans.
Most of the elves in my lil' world are like that. It's hilarious when their arrogance is turned against them.

Excellent! Those are the kind I had in mind as well. Great minds think alike, eh? ;D
They will undoubtedly have quite a bit of character considering that their actions might not be as beautiful as the lore and mythicality they're so often marinated in. These are the kind of realistic elements that make fantasy exciting and enjoyable. <3
