I don't think that Magnetic Rose was directed by Satoshi Kon btw.

I've Only seen Paprika Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent and maybe it's just because I like dark atmospheres but from those three I thought Paranoia Agent was the best

that's an incredibly difficult question to answer since, with the exception of Magnetic Rose, I loved every single one of them. to me it's a tie between Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers. while Paprika is arguably one of the most visually impressive titles of all time, the story isn't the best among Kon's films. so in the end, I'm gonna have to go with Tokyo Godfathers because of the superb storytelling and the realistic characters.

Millennium Actress. It's basically a perfect movie.

Next would come Tokyo Godfathers because the characters are great.

Paprika and Perfect Blue were both very impressive, but left me a bit cold.

As I suspected, Koji Morimoto directed Magnetic ROse and Satoshi Kon was the script writer. Oh, well, it has 0 votes anyway :)

And as kasumisama said, Millenium Actress is the perfect Kon movie.

Sorry for the error, I didn't know. ;)

But it seems no one liked it particularly. :D

I liked Perfectly Blue the most as well as having fond memories of it when I first watched when I was 16, if my mom only knew what she bought for me :P Weakest for me would be Paprika, visually it was great, it just didn't have the story I was hoping for when I watched it during the Chicago film festival last year.

1: Perfect Blue
2: Magnetic Rose
3: Paranoia Agent
4: Tokyo Godfathers
5: Millennium Actress
6: Paprika

I think Paprika was the best.
Nothing more needs to be said as far as I'm concerned.

Chose Millennium Actress over Paprika. I wish I could've chosen both.

Millennium Actress is definitively my favorite Satoshi Kon film. His best talents lay in his more human stories. His tangents into the supernatural/dementia shenanigans just don't leave as much of an impression on me. Still, all his works are so exceptional Satoshi Kon is in a league of his own.

For me the order would have to be:

1. Millennium Actress
2. Paprika
3. Perfect Blue
4. Tokyo Godfathers
5. Paranoia Agent

While I certainly appreciate the trippy blending of dreams and reality in Paprika a lot I felt that MA managed to pull off the blending of fantasy and reality in a rather clever fashion by using Chiyoko's films to mirror events in her life while never truly revealing what actually took place as compared to what was just an event in a film. Plus I liked the fact it seemed to focus more on emotional aspects than Kon's other works (with Tokyo Godfathers being the possible exception there). Still, even PA which I ranked the lowest I absolutely love so you really can't go wrong no matter what your favorite may be.

that's the order that would be for me.
The expression i had after watchin millenium actress is unforgettable especially after ending. On top of that it's close to my exterior.

I find it REALLY hard to chose between Millennium Actress and Perfect Blue.
Perfect Blue was such a masterpiece that really affected me, it's definitely a classic, but Millennium Actress has GOT to be my favorite. It is so beautiful and tells a love story like no other. It doesn't have a 'happy' ending, but then again, how many human lives have truly happy endings?

I love all of his works for different reasons, but all and all I'd have to say MA for me. It really came down to it and Tokyo Godfathers, but Paprika wins for absolute insanity and graphics.

I once said:
For me the order would have to be:

1. Millennium Actress
2. Paprika
3. Perfect Blue
4. Tokyo Godfathers
5. Paranoia Agent

After having seen many more anime and having had a chance to re-watch all of his films, my new order would be:

1. Millennium Actress - Still Kon's best work by far and probably the best animated film I've ever seen along with The Lion King. Chiyoko's character development is excellent, the art and animation are superb - being both stylish and technically sound, and the narrative is constantly engaging. Combine that with Kon's best directing when it comes to blending reality and fantasy, the tasteful and interesting use of the time period Chiyoko's story takes place during, and a very well done score and you have the film that should have been awarded an Oscar as opposed to Miyazaki's overrated fluff piece.

2. Tokyo Godfathers - This film has grown on me immensely due to it being Kon's strongest when it comes to characters. Chiyoko is a better character overall than Gin, Hana, and Miyuki, but the fact that Kon managed to develop those three so well within the confines of a fast paced and highly amusing narrative is impressive. The way the absurd coincidences continually pile up as the film reaches its climax is such an entertaining spectacle and Kon doesn't forget his values as it contains plenty of the social commentary that he's known for.

3. Perfect Blue - I still like Perfect Blue about the same amount I used to. It's a very ambitious directorial debut which goes after the idolization of figures in popular culture, something which Kon abhors, sensibly and without the sort of train wreck scenario that PA had. The only big problem I have with it is, being a psychological thriller, it loses a lot of points in terms of re-watch value. Still, quite possibly his second best piece of work from a critical standpoint.

4. Paranoia Agent - I haven't actually got around to re-watching this yet, but I remember liking what I saw for the most part. It is Kon's most accomplished in terms of straight up social commentary about the ills plaguing Japan and extremely funny at times, but there were a few rough patches that are to be expected when moving from directing films to directing an entire TV series.

5. Paprika - While Tokyo Godfathers shot up a long way for me Paprika fell even further. The problem with Paprika is that, while it is an excellent piece of eye candy as well as a treat for the ears, there is so little to it. We already know Kon's stance on escapism as seen in his other works, so why dedicate almost an entire film to it? It would be one thing if the exploration of dreams was in some way profound or intriguing, but all it does is scratch the surface of basic psychology a bit and focuses almost entirely on looking pretty, as though it were being produced by Studio 4C. I still enjoy the film because it is so visually appetizing, but it is terribly disappointing compared to his other works.

Probably Millennium Actress. There's just something so goddamn beautiful and bittersweet about it. I'm not old nor have I loved deeply, but I empathize with Chiyoko in a way that few movies have made me experience. I dunno, maybe it's not too much of a stretch to say that I feel like I'm a better person for having watched it. Anyways, it kicks arse and its my favorite.

In order of best to good:

Perfect Blue
Paranoia Agent
Paprika
Millennium Actress
Tokyo Godfathers

That's not to say Tokyo Godfathers was bad, but i like the psychological/thriller aspects of the first three.

For the LONGEST time, Paprika was very high on my list, but after I saw Tokyo Godfathers I just fell in love with it. I voted TGF... but it kind of breaks my heart because I still love Paprika! lol

Just think of it as a 2 way tie for first!

I voted for Perfect Blue. I first watched this shortly after I moved to Florida in 2002. I found it in the VHS section of the local video store. I knew very little about it and it seemed like I would like it. Was I surprised! I loved it! It was quite a find for me. Of course, I have since bought a DVD copy and now have it in a BD rip. What a mind-blowing story, very much like Alfred Hitchcock. Later, in 2004 when I really gort into anime, I watched it again and I remain impressed by it.

Millennium Actress for me is a perfect piece of art and my all time favorite movie. The story and development of Chiyoko truly moved me like no other film did and i not counting the gorgeous animation and the amazing soundtrack.

Chiyoko Fujiwara:Look, the full moon...
The Man of the Key: It won't appear until tomorrow, but I like this moon better.
After the full moon, everything begins to wane. But with this penultimate moon,
there is still tomorrow, and so, there is still hope.
