dungeons and dragons (D&D) anyone?

I can understand the appeal of finally getting somebody. It makes all that time and effort seem to pay off, and can give one that warm fuzzy feeling.

You probably should have given the candy the people on a diet handed back to somebody else though, kept it, or had them fight it out somehow. You could have got more than one person then.

I should add that into life lessons to live by: Never trust or eat candy from a strange DM. :1orglaugh

Actually, I tried snatching it away but the table way too long and I was too short. By the time they got a DM in the middle of the table, reaching for the candy they scooted towards me, it was safe in their possession.

And yes, never, ever, ever take candy from a strange DM. One of life's lessons.

has anyone ever played the very 1st d&d by chance?

someone is thinking of running a game at the next meetup.

Yea, I have. It's very different from the D&D you know. But still fun!

If you have a chance to play 1e do so, it's really fun to see where the system you know came from. Actually, play as many different systems as you are able to. It really broadens your horizons as a gamer in general.

Too many people get stuck on one system or another and absolutely refuse to play anything else. IF my players really wanted to play D&D again I'd run it. I don't like it and I'd probably try to talk them out of it, but if in the end that's what they wanted I'd either run it or find new players.

Very tempting on the new player part sometimes....I've got some strange ones.

Though, I still have to run at least a one shot of D&D for Anders since he had a really horrid experience with it.

Let me guess, he somehow lived though the adventure and got to play with players that helped each other out while no loss of limbs or other appendages happened. It probably confused him.

Pfft. I will have you know that I've only had 3 PCs ever lose limbs in my games (not counting Paranoia). One of the vampire characters lost a finger due to a deal with the fey, Leo of course losing use of his legs, and then Anders other character Chinchilla Charlie who lost an arm...

I think there's just something about Anders characters and losing limbs in general.

Btw...this might make you chuckle a bit: http://www.gamergrrls.com/2012/07/18/press-release-fails-gamers-have-urges-too/

Hmmmm...I bet gamer girls have it made. They have to know they are a rare and valuable commodity.

It's actually kind of nice...because of Big Bang Theory, Felicia Day, The Frag Chicks, Team Unicorn, etc, girls are seeing gaming isn't all THAT geeky.

I think the computer and console gaming community has a waaay bigger increase in gamer chicks than the tabletop and board gaming. I'm headed to Gamescom in Koln next month and I expect to see a lot of girls. However, I've noticed I'm not longer one of the few girls to show up to our meetups, though I still think I'm one of the only female DMs. I've also noticed a lot more females attending the convention I go to every year, see a lot more female writers, and actually, about half or more of my gamer friends are actually female.

I personally think it's good that it's becoming so mainstream, the gamer community (especially table and board games) needs the positive light after all the negative publicity with D&D and Vampire.

its a miracle!

i had a new guy come over for a 4e d&d session and it went spectacular.

i was nowhere as nervous as when i ran it for the 3 new guys and everyone got along perfectly.

he loved the game, had a blast, my group loved him and he's coming back.

Cool!

See, gamers really aren't all that scary. ;-)

Not scary, just socially awkward and strange...

Well last weekend tried something new with my close friends (knowing eachother sinds uni): ADnD spin off Pathfinder... And actually we were having a blast, so much fun with it, and to our shame more then with ADnD 2.5... So we're definately going to do more with this. Will write a little bit of story later, if one is interested to know.

And this is how you turn someone's facebook post into Paranoia...

Sometimes the computer is nice. You just have to be extra careful at that point because something's up.

Wheee! Conception is all booked!

And I already have 3 Paranoia games written and ready for once. Now I just need to finish painting the fucking Descent boardgame minis.

Hmmm...I don't think they sell that anymore.

No I think that version is just called "paranoia" if they published anything since Microsoft wacked them with the trademark suit.

They're currently on the 25th anniversary edition. I'm not sure what exactly changed since I only use the storyline and not the system. My system is called "whatever amuses Petra the most".

I can see why your players would find that scary. :D

Last session I ran I had players filling a suit of armor with soup...
